We are an international IB World School for students from 18 months to 18 years. Our school has been founded in two award winning restored national heritage properties - a converted castle complex and a courtyard farm both set in national heritage parkland just 20 minutes from the centres of Brussels, Leuven and Wavre. The beauty and nature of these environments allow students to be both rooted locally and grow internationally. We accept students from 18 months - 18years.
In our nursery and primary school, children are offered a bilingual education in two of our school languages: the options being two from this list: English - French - Dutch. An academic programme in only one of these languages is also possible.
Our school is located in two of the most beautifully renovated National Heritage buildings in the area. The nursery and primary school are based in the stately courtyard manor farm of Hof te Oudevoorde, in Tervuren and the middle and high school/college are set around the courtyard of the historic Robiano-Stolberg Castle looking out into the vijver lakes.
From the nursery classes, the academic programme includes outdoor forest school and farm school classes that blend seamlessly with the active learning aspect of the academic programme. Personalised learning and meeting each child’s needs are at the heart of all we do and providing outstanding pastoral care is paramount.
The joy of learning and developing as bilinguals, the fun of childhood exploration and caring for others and the environment are central to our learning programme.
We provide warm and welcoming school community where every child is encouraged to do their best, be a part of the local community and to engage pro-actively with the wider world. We warmly welcome both local and international pupils.
The primary school can prepare pupils for entry into local or international schools (in English, Dutch or French), giving them a wonderful head start as bilingual language learners. We also, on request, prepare students for UK Common Entrance exams and for scholarships for British public schools.
With our focus on the ecology of childhood and the development of the 'whole child', it goes without saying that character-building and the creation self-confidence run though The Courtyard's DNA.
We are only 15-20 minutes from the Brussels EU Commission sites, NATO, Leuven and Waterloo, yet it feels like we're in the heart of the countryside, surrounded as we are by rolling meadows, the Royal Arboretum, the UNESCO Sonian Forest and the Royal Park of Tervuren (https://www.natuurenbos.be/parktervuren) with all the resources that they offer creative teachers and students.
The Courtyard is an award winning and forward-looking international school with a prep-school feel. It has a warm, home-from-home atmosphere and an excellent academic programme.
