Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs

Yes, as the school's Learning Support Policy states,, Bateen is committed to "Ensure that students with additional needs to those of their peers are fully included in the life of our learning community and have equal opportunity to fulfill their potential".

Learning support offered

Most of the support is based in the classroom - quality first teaching. However, some students will receive specialist 1:1 or small group support if this is felt to be appropriate to meet their needs.

The school supports gifted, able and talented students

Bateen ensures that all students are challenged and make good progress. An identification process is in place for Gifted and Talented students. Provision is then made through differentiation in mainstream lessons, homework and participation in CAS activities. These all offer a wide range of enrichment, extension and acceleration experiences. Gifted and Talented students have a range of needs, some of which are curriculum orientated and some of which are ‘personal and social’.
It is important to keep these distinct needs in mind when devising appropriate provision for students whilst ensuring their full human development. The school provides opportunities for students to take part in external competitions and programmes aimed at high achievers,
including the Model United Nations Conference, where participants assume the role of a UN Ambassador and discuss world issues.

Entry evaluation for students

Yes, students applying for a place, will be required to complete Cognitive Abilities Tests (CATs), which assess a range of reasoning skills.

Brief description of entry evaluation required

The tests look at verbal (words), quantitative (numbers), non-verbal reasoning (shapes and figures) and spatial awareness. The test results, which are for school use only, help to identify the strengths and potential of each student, preferred styles of learning and how the school can further support your son/daughter with their studies in each subject.

Bateen is inclusive but needs to be sure that a student can access the curriculum, enjoy their learning, make sufficient academic progress and have the support required to be a successful learner. If a student achieves low CAT scores, the school may invite the student to complete additional entrance testing in English and Mathematics.
