Dyslexic students are offered learning support in Primary and Junior High Schools with an individualized program, the Accelerated Literacy Development Program, specified by a qualified and experienced specialist teacher. This computer-linked program is integrated into the Language Arts curriculum. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is designed for the students with guidelines for all staff concerned. Students whose literacy development falls below expectations are assessed for specific learning difficulties by the school psychologist and the specialist learning support teacher. If formal assessment has demonstrated dyslexic tendencies or other significant weaknesses in literacy, the student is offered placement in the Accelerated Literacy Development Program. The objective is for the student to achieve grade level proficiency in reading and spelling.
