Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
Beijing International Bilingual Academy (BIBA) is established in 2006. It is a school providing quality bilingual international education based on contemporary education concepts, with a focus on love and fulfillment as well as preparing global citizens deeply rooted in the Chinese culture. The Chinese name of BIBA is “Hai Jia”, originated from classic Chinese literature.“Hai” comes from “海纳百川” which means the ocean accommodates all rivers, and “Jia” comes from “嘉言懿行” which means words of virtues and noble deeds. These Chinese phrases also imply “Great and Wide”, “Splendid and Kind”. BIBA's vision is to become a model for developing internationally-bilingual ambassadors, who promote inter-cultural understanding, respect and integration in a dynamic global community. BIBA’s quality is internationally assured through a variety of accreditations and professional membership. These included accreditation by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as an IB World School offering the IBDP and IB MYP programmes; accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) of the U.S.A., membership of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), International Schools Athletic Conference (ISAC), and East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). BIBA is also a member of the Cambridge International Examinations Professional Development Centre (PDQ), a test center for the Certificate for Bilingual Teaching Ability test for International Education Teachers, and is a China Aerospace Science and Technology Education Alliance unit. In 2019, BIBA also introduced the Duke of Edinburgh International Award China (DofE China) program to provide students with a broader platform for growth. |
Teaching approach of the school |
The curriculum of BIBA is based on the National curriculum standards of China with the philosophy of developing students who are “Deeply-rooted in China, and have a Heart for the world”. Advanced concepts and frameworks of the IB and IGCSE are adopted, with the essence of Chinese and International education integrated to form a rich and diversified curriculum. With development of the whole-person as the core, scientific, rigorous academic and evaluation systems are used to assure learning and teaching quality. Students' higher-order thinking, values and a variety of important 21st century core competencies are developed through project-based learning and inquiry-based teaching, reading and writing workshops, Chinese classics, STEAM courses, creative community services, aesthetic education, outdoor education and other unique courses. The school emphasizes on moral education. It has an important House system named after the Chinese 5 virtues (the Five Constant culture of Confucianism) for developing students’ core values and reinforcing the development of "love and fulfillment". |
