Use of technology in the classroom |
Our vision regarding technology is to provide every student with the digital competencies that prepare them for the ever-changing world that we live in. We create a culture where everyone embraces new ideas and technologies. We guide young adults to become principled digital citizens. Avenor College has developed the “ Bring Your Own Device” program in the belief that this is a suitable way for the school to provide teachers and students opportunities to extend and enrich learning by: shifting instruction towards more engaging, autonomous, student-centered learning where inquiry and authentic learning are emphasized (Skill Based); focusing on 21st Century Learning, including critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication, self-direction, and global and cultural awareness; using online learning tools and digital content. When used during class time, devices can and will do more than substitute learning tasks that can be equally done offline – they will be used for tasks where technology enhances learning and offers appropriate challenge, differentiation or/and personalisation. The use of technology opens the door for student’s voice, choice and agency, promotes independent thinking and increases motivation. |
Is the school ready to use virtual classrooms when needed? (e.g. teaching lessons online if the school is closed, e.g. during COVID-19 closures) |
At Avenor, we co-create the best future for and with our students. Being future-ready is one of the characteristics of our Avenor Learner Profile and no one can imagine a future without technology.

Teaching approach of the school |
At Avenor, excellence in education is not just a goal—it is one of our values. This commitment was validated in March 2023 when we received the prestigious “OUTSTANDING in each standard and overall” rating from the British School Overseas (BSO) inspection. This top-tier distinction places us among the nearly 200 schools worldwide recognized for providing an education on par with leading independent schools in the UK and globally. Our teaching approach centers around nurturing learning leaders who actively seek to make sense of the world and help the world make more sense. We believe that understanding the world deeply requires a solid grasp of important concepts and the connections between them. Equally important is building the capability and desire to make a positive impact—qualities that rely on both skill (competency) and strong moral character. Our educational philosophy is based on what we call the 3Cs: Conceptual Learning, Competency Learning, and Character Learning. This holistic approach develops students who are knowledgeable, capable, and principled—qualities we believe are essential for a lifetime of meaningful learning and responsible leadership.
