Brief description of entry evaluation required

Students sit an assessment test which will be conducted by the Headmaster of Malvern College Egypt or a member of the College Leadership Team. For younger students these tests are specially designed by MCE. For older students from Year 4 to Year 10, age-specific Cognitive Ability Testing (CAT) is used. The assessment is scheduled to last approximately one hour for children in Nursery to Year 4 and one and a half hours for children in Years 5 to 10.

At Malvern College Egypt we believe in the importance of educating and supporting the whole child and recognise the needs for physical health, extra academic challenge and engagement. Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) at MCE includes many activities: ranging from learning a new language, playing an instrument, taking an art class, and others choosing to participate in physical activities such as football, Judo, Body Balance or swimming.

We hope that all the activities we offer will provide students with an opportunity to make some decisions, feel proud of themselves as they learn new things. The benefits of co-curricular activity in schools have been extensively researched and it has been found that students who participate in these activities develop higher academic results, better relationships at school, and are more likely to lead healthy, active lifestyles when they leave school.

Students also feel a greater sense of belonging and have a higher self-esteem at school when they participate in structured sporting, performing arts and other activities. In addition, the co-curricular opportunities we provide makes for a more motivated and engaged group of students, which leads to a happier and more cohesive College.
As the College continues to go from strength to strength and numbers grow, we would like to ensure our CCA programme continues to be diverse, exciting and dynamic.

Sports activities included

At Malvern College Egypt we take Physical Education and Sport competitions very seriously. We offer a wide range of sports and activities for the students to take part in during their PE lessons, as well as a number of sports on a more competitive level. During the school day we focus on benchball, basketball, football, athletics, rugby, orienteering and table tennis. We believe these sports and activities provide students with the opportunity to become physically literate young people, improving both fundamental skills and physical capabilities. We are in a positive position this year to be able to offer a number of sports where students can compete across Cairo against other international schools. We have competitive teams for both boys and girls within the primary and secondary schools for football, basketball, swimming and touch rugby.

We are fortunate enough to have a team of ten teachers within the department where all are fully qualified and experienced members of staff, who have taught all over the world. These teachers each have individual specialties, further providing the students with a balanced and broad standard of education. We offer the IGCSE to our year 9 students and above, where the students have the opportunity to further improve their knowledge and understanding for more of the theoretical elements within Physical Education.

Our FIFA Pro all weather sports field, basketball/netball courts, two adventure play grounds and indoor Gym provide pupils
with many opportunities to burn off some energy and stay fit in PE lessons and break times alike.
Pupils of all ages can take advantage of swimming pools appropriate to their skill level. The training pool provides beginners
with a safe environment in which to explore swimming for the first time and build their confidence to become independent
swimmers. The 25m, six lane pool allows intermediate to advanced swimmers to refine their skills and even compete within
the College and against other local schools.

Teaching approach of the school

Our approach to learning intends to cultivate a thirst for knowledge, a love of learning and the confidence to develop academic and social skills in our pupils, which will prepare them for success in higher education and life beyond.

The primary teaching language at Malvern College Egypt is English. From Nursery through to Year 8 we offer an enhanced form of the English National Curriculum, which is inquiry-based, yet also maintains structure for academic rigour. The child is put at the centre of their learning. In Year 9 students begin the International GCSE prior to moving to the Sixth Form to study their final qualification before graduation. From September 2018 MCE offers a full complement of A-Levels courses within our Sixth Form. MCE has also successfully applied to become a candidate school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and is undertaking the full 2-year authorisation process, due to be completed by April 2019, to begin teaching the IBDP courses from August 2019.

Our highly qualified academic staff encourage a scholarly approach in our students and look to nurture in them the habits and skills of independent as well as collaborative learning which will equip them not only for success at school but also at university and in their future careers.

We are committed to providing academic support and stretch to all our pupils, across the ability range, within the curriculum and through enrichment programmes and an extensive range of academic clubs and societies. The return, we believe, will be a splendid set of examination results achieved by well-balanced young people which will enable admission to the most highly regarded universities both in the UK and internationally.

Malvern College Egypt is an all-round school in the truest sense.
