Entry evaluation for students |
Students applying to enter Grade 2 and above must take diagnostic tests to determine placement. |
Brief description of entry evaluation required |
All other prospective students take diagnostic tests in the core subjects. These tests help to determine if the students have attained the minimum expected standard for each subject. The school then makes final placement decisions but can resort to the various strategies at its disposal to help bring a student to the required level. For example, there is the option of attending summer school or perhaps extra classes in a subject. Special academic support is taken very seriously by the school. |

About the school
Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
The International School of Choueifat-Doha first opened its doors in 1999 to students in KG1 to Grade 12. ISC-Doha is a member of the global SABIS® Network, established in 1886 with the opening of its first school. For 129 years, schools in the SABIS® Network have been preparing students with the knowledge and skills required to help them achieve success in a changing world. Today, the SABIS® Network educates 70,000 students who attend schools operating in 16 countries on four continents. Like all SABIS® Network schools around the world, ISC-Doha is a highly academic, non-selective, co-educational, English-medium, independent day school catering for the complete individual. |
Teaching approach of the school |
The curriculum implemented at ISC-Doha is specifically designed by SABIS® to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop a solid academic foundation. This foundation will help students achieve their full potential and develop a love of lifelong learning. All courses for students at all levels are clearly structured to enable students and teachers to know precisely what should be learned. Teachers teach one concept at a time using the SABIS Point System® with each lesson alternating frequently between oral work, individual work, and group work in such a way that it is difficult for students to “switch off”.
All courses at ISC-Doha are structured. A system of academic tracking - the SABIS® AMS, a computerized method of detecting gaps in knowledge - allows the administration to closely follow the progress of each individual. Gaps are pinpointed as soon as they form, and efforts are focused on eliminating them. Valuable time is saved and a gap-free, cohesive structure of knowledge is built in students' minds. |
