ISF offers an excellent Intensive English and German Program for non-native speakers at three levels: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced. After completing Intensive English/German Advanced, a student will transition into Regular English/German with native speakers of the language. A student who does not speak any English/German upon admission to the school will normally transition to Regular English after approximately one school year.

ISF is the only school in Germany that offers students the opportunity to have a choice between two world-class academic programs in Grades 11 and 12. ISF students can choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) Diploma Programme, one of the most widely-recognized international diplomas in the world, or the Advanced Placement (AP) program, which is offered by The College Board in the U.S.

Along with IB or AP programs, all of ISF graduates receive the ISF High School Diploma, which is recognized by the U.S. State Department and by all U.S. colleges and universities.

From 2019 to 2023, our 345 graduates have received 798 offers from 242 universities across 26 countries.

From Grade 1 all students entering ISF take a placement test to determine their grade level, as school systems around the world vary. This can be arranged either online or in person with your visit.

There are no academic requirements for acceptance into Kindergarten, although students applying to Kindergarten must turn 3 by June 30 in the year they will enter the program. They must also be able to speak and follow simple instructions as well as be toilet trained.

Candidates for grades 1–2 have a meeting with the Primary School Academic Coordinator, who also meets with the parents of each prospective student.

Students seeking entry to all other grades (3-12) take diagnostics tests in English and mathematics before entry. These diagnostic tests help ISF to determine the appropriate grades for each student and the correct level within each grade. For instance, in certain grades ISF may have four levels of English and German, two levels of mathematics, and several levels of French and Spanish. Therefore, it is vital that ISF places each student correctly, so that he or she is able to progress and learn.

The results of the diagnostic tests are discussed with parents before the final grade placement is made by the school.

ISF offers an extended day care program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 both prior to and following the school day. This program provides adult supervision of the students in the morning from 8:00 until the start of the school day at 8:20 and from dismissal of the academic day at 15:05 (Kindergarten), 15:20 (Pre-School - Grade 4) or 16:10 (Grades 5-6) until 18:00. In the afternoon, students may also participate in a variety of other organised activities and sports.

ISF has three bright and modern cafeterias where its students may eat a nutritious three-course lunch or food they bring from home. ISF also provides a kiosk within the main cafeteria where students can purchase wholesome sandwiches and fresh fruit at break time or after school.

ISF has a required school uniform for students in grades 1 through 9. Students in grades 10 and above have to abide by set standards for attire. There is also a required uniform for physical education classes.

There are between 350-400 different activities per week. Some activities are primarily academic in focus while others emphasize creativity or sports. There are also a large number of clubs and activities available including art, ballet, chess, choir, dance, debating, drama, film, IT, Korean drumming and science. Sports are offered through the sports club and include badminton, basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field/cross country, and volleyball. Regardless of their focus, all clubs and activities are engaging.

Being part of the German club system enables athletes to compete in local league games as well as competitions at local and national level.
