Yes, we offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) Support to students requiring extra support. The purpose of this programme is to provide targeted help to students to develop literacy in English. The programme will give additional attention to speaking, listening & comprehension of spoken English, reading & writing and learning through English.

Students from age 5 and above who need the support will be identified during the assessment stage of the Admissions process. Following this, The Oxford Young Learners Placement Test is used to determine each child's current level. For students below 5 years old, EAL is not required upon enrolment; however, the child will be assessed during Kindergarten 1. This is to determine whether EAL support is compulsory to prepare them for primary school learning.

Currently, Vietnamese Language & Culture (VLC) and Mandarin are offered as 2nd Languages. Vietnamese class is compulsory for students of Vietnamese nationality. For other international students, they can choose to study either Vietnamese or Mandarin (lessons for both Vietnamese and Mandarin run concurrently). Lessons are conducted three times a week, for a duration of an hour or more, depending on the year level. Students will either learn the second language at the standard level or basic level. The class allocation of the child (basic or standard class) will be based on the following (by the language teachers) on class assessments and observations on the student’s learning in class.

Every classroom in our school is well-equipped with essential teaching tools, including projectors and tablets. In addition to these traditional classrooms, our school campuses boast a range of functional rooms, such as the ICT lab. In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, our school has embraced a diverse array of platforms and tools to facilitate interactive and engaging online and blended learning experiences.

Yes, virtual classroom technologies are conducted via secure intranet portal. Various tools are used to assign students tasks/homework and to communicate with parents.

Students in Year 6 are required to complete the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint before moving on to Secondary School.

At AHI, our homework and learning policy is built upon the following beliefs:

- The school day is already sufficiently long to meet curriculum expectations.
- Additional home learning is not necessary for most students.
- Not all parents have the time, knowledge or skills to support students with home learning.
- All parents can help students to learn spellings and times table facts.
- Students need time to socialise, rest, play, and be children to enjoy their childhood.
- Students should be given opportunities to try new experiences outside school and begin to develop personal interests.
- Activities such as reading for pleasure, cooking, learning a musical instrument, and playing sports are all forms of home learning.

We work with an external party who is a professional and licensed support centre. They will evaluate the child and work closely with the school and parents to determine the level of support needed.

New students will be assessed/evaluated on their literacy and numeracy as well as PIES (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social) skills to determine which year group they are best suited to, and what additional support they may need.

- Children under 5 years old – Where possible, we encourage children to attend 3 ‘trial days’ in the relevant class from 8:00am to 12:00 midday.
- Children aged 5-6 years old will meet with the Primary School Principal and undertake a phonics and maths assessment. Other assessments or trial days may be required at the School’s discretion. School reports for the last 2 academic years will also be requested.
- Children from 6 to 10 years old will meet the Primary School Principal for an informal interview and complete a standardised Maths test. Children with English as an Additional Language will also take an online English Language Use and Listening test, whereas children with English as a first language will complete a standardised reading test. Other assessments or trial days may be required at the School’s discretion. School reports for the last 2 academic years will also be requested.

Yes, if a child is on a waiting list, this means that the year group for the child is currently full. We will contact the child's family as soon as a spot opens up. The waiting time will depend on the size of the waiting list.

Yes, we accept late enrolment throughout the academic year and the join date corresponds with the start of a new term.

All sports and physical activities are part of the Physical Education (PE) subject. Moreover, the school offers a variety of sports facilities across two campuses, including a football field, multi-purpose basketball/volleyball court, swimming pool, and a rock-climbing wall.
