Learning support offered

Students who require additional support are identified using the ESF Levels of Adjustments. Students identified at Level of Adjustment 1 or 2 are supported in the mainstream classroom by the Head of Special Educational Needs and team of SEN Educational Assistants. Student needs may range from mild Speech and Language Difficulties, Attention Deficit Disorder, Specific Learning Difficulties, Sensory Integration and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Students at Level of Adjustment 3 or 4 are identified as Learning Support. These students have more moderate needs that may require specialised teaching from the SEN team. Beacon Hill School has capacity for 21 Learning Support Students which include three Learning Support Teachers and three Learning Support Educational assistants.

About the school

Beacon Hill School is one of 21 schools run by the English Schools Foundation (ESF). The ESF was founded by Ordinance in 1967 to provide a ‘modern liberal education’ through the medium of English.

The school teaches through the medium of English. Priority is given to non-Cantonese speaking children (who cannot, therefore access the local system) and who speak a good level of English. BHS has incorporated Chinese Mandarin as a daily lesson drawing positively on the multi-cultural elements of Hong Kong.

Standards at BHS are high. The curriculum offered is aligned to the philosophy of the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and involves an inquiry-based, investigative style of teaching and learning. Central to the life of the school, is the positive community spirit and the strong partnerships with parents. There is an active Parent Teacher Association which supports the school through a variety of social and fund-raising events.

BHS follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme with its curriculum developed from best practice around the world. Through this programme the school enables purposeful challenge and aims to inspire and motivate its children to be creative, independent learners who are aware of their social responsibility.
As well as being an IB World School BHS is also accredited by the Council of International Schools.
