About the school

Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

Established in 1995, Lantau International School is like no other school in Hong Kong. Nestled amidst the scenic splendour of South Lantau in three campuses, Cheung Sha (4,500sq/ft) , Tong Fuk (12,000sq/ft) and Pui O (9,000sq/ft) LIS operates 14 classes for a maximum intake of 320 pupils.

The school boasts a unique balance between a Primary English education and the greenest environment of Hong Kong, in low rise buildings. At LIS, children will receive a well-rounded education of the highest standard where they will flourish both socially and academically.

Teaching approach of the school

As Hong Kong is such a diverse city, and as LIS truly is an international school with both children and teachers coming from all over the world, the British National Curriculum is adapted so that it is applicable to all pupils.
Topic works focus on local history, local geography, and the traditional culture of the Hong Kong people. These areas of study are connected to broader topics in European and North American history, geography, and culture. World religions are taught with the aim of promoting understanding, tolerance, and the appreciation of the rich collective histories and cultures of this part of the world.
LIS takes full advantage of its green surroundings with outdoor education programs (such as camping trips, PE on the beach, school hikes, outdoor nature lessons and sometimes unexpected encounters with the rich wild fauna of Lantau South).
