Interview |
Brief description of entry evaluation required |
As English is the medium of instruction, apart from Chinese lessons, the admissions interview is based around whether a candidate has sufficient language, at an age appropriate level, to learn effectively through English. Interviews are intended to be informal and friendly and are conducted by experienced primary school teachers who realise that some students may be nervous and need to be put at their ease. |

Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
Quarry Bay School is one of 21 schools run by the English Schools Foundation (ESF). The ESF was founded by Ordinance in 1967 to provide a ‘modern liberal education’ through the medium of English. Quarry Bay School is the oldest English Schools Foundation primary school in Hong Kong. Quarry Bay School aims to encourage a love of learning by providing learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom that help to develop confident, happy and successful learners who are curious about the world. QBS uses the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) as its curriculum framework and has been an authorised IB World School since May 2010. |
Teaching approach of the school |
Children at QBS develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding of concepts through guided inquiry. Classrooms foster curiosity and promote discovery by making learning relevant to the “real world” and challenging for each student. QBS starts from children’s prior knowledge and build on each student’s strengths, experiences, and cultural and linguistic background to support learning. QBS encourages children to become independent learners and critical and creative thinkers who are empowered to take action. |
