Sha Tin College operates a Google Apps for Education domain. Allied with Smart, the Moodle-based virtual learning environment, this gives staff and students and powerful suite of tools to enrich learning and teaching. Additionally, STC continues to invest heavily in its IT infrastructure to ensure a cutting-edge backbone is in place to support the ever growing use of digital technologies.

Sha Tin College is a 1:1 laptop school. In Years 7-9 it operates a parent-owned, single model laptop programme, which is fully school-supported. Each year the school tenders for the most appropriate device for the incoming cohort. In Years 10-13 students bring their own device, which must meet the school’s minimum specifications.

Special Educational Needs program

A wide range of services are available dependent on each student’s level of need. This may include in-class support from an Educational Assistant or Learning Support teacher, pull-out, small group support lessons, development of a student support plan or an individual educational program, and/or placement in the Learning Support Centre.

Enrichment and extension activities are available to help students develop their special abilities and talents. Departments offer special activities and information is shared about programmes in the community.

Complete age-appropriate assessments to determine their ability to engage with an English medium curriculum.

All ESF schools are non-selective academically. However, as English is the medium of instruction, it is essential that students demonstrate fluency in English before admission can be considered. For this reason, all students are required to pass a written English test.

Sha Tin College is one of 21 schools run by the English Schools Foundation (ESF). The ESF was founded by Ordinance in 1967 to provide a ‘modern liberal education’
through the medium of English.

c) The need to develop the elements of learning: knowledge, skills, concepts and values/attitudes. This aims to foster a spirit of enquiry, a sense of adventure, a pride in individual and team achievements, the confidence to meet challenges and the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

d) The need to ensure progression and continuity, building on and extending the work done by Sha Tin College partner schools.

e) The need to ensure coherence of learning. Whilst subjects are taught through different curriculum areas, consistency of approach, common themes and inter-disciplinary links are emphasised to ensure that students gain a holistic view of knowledge and its acquisition.
