Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
Kensington School is a school for pupils ranging in age from 3-18. Having once completed their British education to the age of 14, pupils continue their Spanish studies towards Bachillerato and university entry whether in Spain or abroad. Through a British curriculum Kensington aspires to produce a solid grounding, and understanding, not only in the diverse range of subjects taught, but also an eminently practical knowledge of the English language. All pupils will have the opportunity of preparing for a number of University of Cambridge English as a foreign language examinations and a lesser number IGCSE English (as a first language) which will later enable them to pursue university studies abroad in English speaking countries. |
Teaching approach of the school |
As a foreign school Kensington offers a largely British curriculum to the end of Year 9. The British curriculum offered is that prescribed in the UK for British state schools. As a school admitting Spanish pupils, the Education Department of the Community of Madrid requires that certain key subjects are studied in Spanish, to ensure that following a largely British curriculum is not to the detriment of a pupil's education in their native language and culture. Ninety nine percent of the pupils in the school are Spanish. The curriculum is designed to develop the pupil's linguistic and intellectual skills, to acquire an excellent knowledge of the English language and culture, whilst simultaneously attaining as high as standard in all subjects as in the very best Spanish schools. |
