Good school, but with administrative process deficits and perceived bias from the school board
In general, I must say that the teachers at the German school are very pleasant and cooperative. In my opinion, the teachers were mostly nice and fair and always had an open ear for me as a parent.
In regards to the administrative structure, I have the feeling that the board is somewhat biased towards some parents, which I actually find very unfortunate. I also no longer find the almost annual school fee increases acceptable. When it comes to school fee reductions, Kenyans seem to get more reductions than foreigners.
The poor administrative structure is reflected in the finance department, which offsets payments against outstanding debts, even though the intended purpose clearly states that the payment is for the first semester of the school year. This of course creates chaos. The entire administrative structure urgently needs clear structures, which in my opinion do not exist. The administrative processes need to be improved. Despite repeated inquiries to the finance department, they refused to give any further answers, which I consider to be an ignorant behavior.
The internal administrative processes are below standard. For example, the finance department did not know that my son was leaving school even though I informed Admin Department a month earlier.
During the demonstration and riots in Nairobi, there was no efficient security system and the school seemed completely clueless. In my opinion, neither the school management, the administration nor the board had the situation under control and I can only use the word incompetence here. The information sharing was terrible. Instead of the school contacting me as a parent, my son called me and told me to pick him up.
Regarding recruitment process, I also suspect that the recruitment process is not as transparent as it should be.
It seems to be more important whether I like the candidate because I happen to know him or whether I don't like him. That's actually very questionable, because it means that professional experience, studies and the like are not taken into account at all and you fall out of the grid just because board doesnt like you.
I give 2 stars to the school.
The teachers are mostly very positive. - For that I give 5 stars.
The poor administrative structure is not acceptable because money is not recorded correctly despite its clear purpose. If that's the same case with funding money then I am concerned.
- For that I only give 1 star.
In my opinion, the board is very biased.
- For that I only give 1 star.
The overall rating is therefore 2 stars.
In general, the teachers are great and I recommend them.
