Language support for students not fluent in English and French

For non-native speakers of English or French, the ECB-CBS provides additional language support for all students in grades Kindergarten through 9 with intensive ESL (English as a Second Language) and FSL (French as a Second Language) programs. Students applying for grades 10, 11 or 12 must demonstrate a functional level of academic English or French to complete the provincial exam requirements of the British Columbia provincially prescribed curriculum. All non-native speakers of English or French are required to write a language proficiency test during the application process.

Max. number of students per class

Class sizes vary from 10-20 students depending on the course subject. However, maximum class size for core academic courses is a 16:1 student-teacher ratio.

Dedicated staff/programs for students with special learning needs

The ECB-CBS will make every effort to accommodate a student’s special learning needs. However, the programs are designed for students who can function in the mainstream classroom without extra support. The ECB-CBS is not able to accommodate students with moderate or severe disabilities or students with significant conduct, communicative or emotional difficulties.

Students who require one-on-one classroom support may be assigned a private special education specialist at an additional cost to the family. For more information on Learning Support Services at the ECB-CBS, please contact info@ecb-cbs.ca

Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

The Canadian Bilingual School of Paris - a piece of Canada in the heart of Paris - opened its doors in September 2015. The Canadian Bilingual School of Paris offers an elite half-day high performance program, aligned with a rich academic program all based on the curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education of the province of British Columbia, Canada.

Teaching approach of the school

The ECB-CBS delivers the British Columbia Ministry of Education’s provincially prescribed curriculum for grades Kindergarten through 12. At the ECB-CBS, students learn in English and in French. The School offers a truly bilingual and bi-cultural experience that will develop the language skills students need as 21st century learners. The bilingual curriculum will challenge students who are acquiring reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in both English and French.
