Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
Open Sky International is an independent French-English international bilingual school that welcomes children from the age of 2 to 18 years old from more than 40 countries. We are located only five minutes away from Paris, in Boulogne-Billancourt. We provide a truly bilingual education from pre-school to secondary school (lycée) and are the only establishment in the Paris region to offer such continuity. In pre-school and primary school, half of our classes are taught in French, the other half in English. From secondary school (collège), our students are prepared in French and English for internationally recognised qualifications which will allow them to enter the best schools and universities around the world. They take the British GCSE and IGCSE examinations and can also sit the Brevet des Collèges. At the end of their collège at Open Sky International (Year 11 / 10th Grade), our students will start preparing for a gold-standard qualification recognised by the world’s best universities, including the French preparatory classes: The A levels. We are certified examination centre for the GCSE / IGCSE and A levels / International A levels. Our teachers are native speakers and have prestigious qualifications (PGCE) as well as experience in international schools. |
Teaching approach of the school |
Our goal is to ensure that our pupils grow into well-rounded, confident individuals who have all the tools they need to succeed in today's open and challenging world, whether in France, in their country of origin or anywhere else. We help our pupils achieve academic excellence (for instance, they can read and write in English from the age of four, in French at the end of Year 1 / Kindergarten), and develop an open-mindedness to the world (we explain cultural and intercultural aspects to children from more than 40 different countries at a very early age) and communication skills (children learn to speak in "public" and to present their work from the age of three). We offer them a range of activities (sports, chess, capoiera, drama, art) and accompany each of them throughout their entire journey with us to make sure they thrive not only academically, but in all other areas of their development and well-being. In lessons, we tailor our educational approach as much as possible to the personality, strengths, and weaknesses of each child, which is possible thanks our low student-to-teacher ratio and limited number of pupils per classroom. The number of pupils per classroom does not exceed 18 in pre-school and primary school (except 22 in TPS and PS with 3 adults in the class), and 20 in secondary school. We have very high academic standards: The school offers the very best education in French and English. Our pupils benefit from an international education based on the British, Australian, Singapore and French curricula. Our curriculum is unique in France and two years ahead of that of other schools, with pupils who, for example, can read and write by the end of Reception (Pre-Kindergarten), or who master divisions in Year 2 (1st Grade). A school without selection on entry: Our results are not based on a very strict selection of children. We believe that every child can succeed and that our mission is to help children learn and achieve a high academic level. We therefore accept all children. Even if they do not speak a word of French and/or English when joining our school, all our pupils become fully bilingual after two years at Open Sky International. |
