Use of technology in the classroom |
For Kindergarten we have a 0% technology policy. At the primary level, competence in information and communication technology (ICT) is an important civic skill both in itself and as part of multiliteracy. It is an object and a tool of learning. The pupils are supported in familiarising themselves with various ICT applications and uses and in observing their significance in their daily life, in interpersonal interaction and as a channel of influence. The pupils together with the teacher consider why ICT is needed in studying, work and society and how these skills have become a part of general working life competence. They learn to assess the impact of ICT from the perspective of sustainable development and to be responsible consumers. They also gather experiences of using ICT in international communication. They learn to perceive its significance, potential and risks in a global world. |

Do teachers assign homework to their students? |
In line with the Finnish curriculum, for Kindergarten we do not assign any homework, however, we encourage parents to follow our unit themes so they can discuss similar topics with their children at home. For the primary level, we believe that besides homework, there are many more things that can improve a child’s performance in school, such as doing home chores, activities and having dinner with their families; exercising or getting a good night’s sleep. Any homework will be project-based and designed to include collaboration with the family, encouraging, research, innovation and exploration. Regular parent/teacher/child conferences are arranged to set goals for each child at school and at home, taking the child’s wishes into account. |
