This review relates to the VHS Location.
As we are moving to the Netherlands we have considered HSV as an option based on the reviews we've seen.
Since one basically cannot do a school tour and have any in depth discussion prior to registering the children, we have paid the 150€/child registration fee.
We were very poorly impressed:
- Cold welcome, it was like doing us a favour to sell us the school after we've paid 300€ (we did a single viewing for both children) for registering them without any guarantee of a placement
- An immediate a priori regarding the children based on first impressions
- A line of questioning, out of touch, in front of the children, trying to prove the first impressions (clearly there was an attempt to say one of them had autism though this was never said explicitly - this first impression is totally ridiculous).
- The children we've seen did not appear to be happy, the joy we see in other schools was totally absent. There was nothing engaging in the dynamics.
- Though the facilities are the least important, the level of darkness inside the school also contributed to the overall grim mood.
- The questioning clearly indicated an elitist style of education (I recall this is a public school receiving public funds), old fashioned and simply out of touch with promoting a nurturing environment.
- A suggestion to go and check another school which is out of touch considering the objective of the visit and the 300€ already paid for registering.
- In the end we naturally could not select this school for our children. We have asked for at least one registration to be refunded considering all was done together, that no placement was granted and that there was little time between that payment and the visit. This was denied - unfortunately unsurprising since consistent with everything else we've experienced.
For me it is clearly a negative environment for educating children. As I can still certainly imagine worse, I give it a two rather than a one.
