Additional language classes offered by the school

As a truly international school ISH is committed to the development of every child’s Mother Tongue. This is normally the language their parents have used to communicate with them since they were born, to tell them their first stories, to comfort them when they were afraid or hurt and is often the same language spoken by their grandparents.
Research has proven that a strong Mother Tongue contributes to the successful acquisition of new languages. It also provides children with access to their own culture and family background, giving status and value to their multi-lingual and cultural identity.

Within the curriculum the teachers ensure that on a weekly basis there are opportunities for children to use their Mother Tongue either individually or in groups. Children participate in a variety of meaningful learning opportunities, which include researching, preparing presentations and sharing their thoughts through speaking and listening activities.

Dutch is our host language and whilst living in the Netherlands, all students have the opportunity to learn Dutch. Children in all age groups learn Dutch from a specialist language teacher and in addition they explore the history, culture and geography of the Netherlands.

The International School of The Hague (ISH) strives to foster a safe, disciplined, educational environment, both offline and online, to provide an atmosphere where students can develop the skills to become motivated, independent and productive digital citizens. ISH teachers and students know the benefits of technology in the educational environment and strive to ensure that technology is used appropriately and effectively.

All members of ISH will be good digital citizens by being safe, responsible, and respectful with their use of technology. Staff and students will model digital citizenship and encourage others to do the same. Teachers will provide instruction for their students about the appropriate use of technology and online safety. ISH teachers, staff and students will protect their information, treat others kindly, and credit their sources.

We are ready to offer online classroom solutions in the event of a quarantine through a combination of platforms, depending on the ages of the student of Google Classroom and Seesaw.

All our Secondary students complete programmes that are assessed by the IB Organization.

Results in these examinations

Our Year 11 students reached results well above the world average in the Personal Project of the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This is the culminating experience in the MYP, a self-directed inquiry project in which students get to explore in depth a topic that they are interested in or passionate about.

The Personal Project gives students the opportunity to showcase the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that they have developed in their five years in the MYP and develop those skills further. All of our students achieved a passing grade or better, with an average of 5.94 compared to the world average of 4.23.
At the end of each academic year, we receive external verification of the success of our programmes via the International Baccalaureate (IB) exams and moderation. This year 99% of our Diploma Programme (IBDP) students achieved the full diploma and 7 out of our 8 Career-related Programme (IBCP) students were successful.

Yes, however, this is managed sensitively and monitored regularly to avoid students being overloaded.

For Primary school, admissions will contact you to make an appointment for a short discussion about your child's needs and a tour of the school.
All Secondary School applicants will undergo Placement Tests before a place can be confirmed for them in the school.

The International School of The Hague offers a pathway for sporting development from Year 7 to Year 13 in a wide range of individual and team sports.
Competitive and recreational sport plays a key part in developing an ISH pupil’s potential, no matter the level of experience or the type of sporting activity. Respect, Belief, Commitment and Sportsmanship are just some of the characteristics we aim to nurture in each ISH representative. This consistent message is given to all those students who engage with our programmes, whether you are an U12 or a Senior Varsity player.
All of the programmes benefit from the involvement of a team of highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic coaches. Both our internal and external specialist coaches regularly liaise and consult with our cross curricular sports staff to ensure that every pupil is maximising their potential, as well as enjoying their experience regardless of ability.
Students and the staff involved in the different sports programmes benefit from both fantastic onsite facilities as well access to a range of partner organisation off-site facilities.
