Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
The American International School-Salzburg is an international, college-preparatory boarding school for students in grades 7 through 12 located in one of the most beautiful and culturally-rich cities in Western Europe. The academic program is purely college-preparatory and 100% of our students enroll in university programs in Europe, the UK and North America upon reception of our diploma. As a true boarding school with around 90% of our students resident on campus, the school offers a very wide variety of extracurricular and weekend activities including sports, ski trips, overnight trips, and multi-day excursions. The resident-care staff is separate from the teaching faculty and is dedicated to the guidance, supervision and care of the boarding students as full-time, resident staff members. The teaching faculty is very long-term and highly professional at delivering an outstanding college-preparatory curriculum and excellent preparation for university studies. Through participation in and passing Advanced Placement® Examinations, students at AIS-Salzburg can meet entrance requirements at universities in continental Europe, the UK, and North America, provided they meet linguistic requirements as well. At the present time, approximately one-third of our graduates matriculate to universities in North America, one-third go to the UK, and the final third enroll in universities and university systems here in Continental Europe. The American International School-Salzburg is primarily a full boarding school with over 80% of its students living on the school campus in dormitory rooming. However, between 15% and 20% of the students live in the immediate area in and around Salzburg and join AIS for instruction as day students. |
Teaching approach of the school |
The teaching faculty is released from any boarding duties and focuses only on the delivery of a college-preparatory curriculum. The teachers are relatively free to select and carry out the methodology, strategies and establish academic parameters which represent best-practice in their academic subject areas. Unlike many international schools, the teaching faculty of AIS-Salzburg is very long-term with most of the faculty members having over 20 year's experience at AIS-Salzburg. |
