All students have access to our online learning platform that is used across all subject lessons, a full ICT suite, in addition, ipads and laptops are available for students. Students at Britannica follow the English National Curriculum achieving the highest pass rates at IGCSE and A Level examination. We work with the prestigious examination boards of Cambridge University and Edexcel to deliver the highly esteemed Advanced Level (AS and A2) examinations learning to British, American, Canadian, Australian and Asian University entrance.

Results in these examinations

2021 A Level results have been outstanding, with all Year 13 students passing all subjects and gaining entry to the university of their choice. Britannica International is delighted to announce that 64% of all grades were A*- B, significantly above the UK national average. Mathematics and the Sciences continue to excel with 100% pass rate in all subjects.

Brief description of entry evaluation required

A basic evaluation of cognitive ability is undertaken for new students wishing to join the school, usually taking less than 30 minutes. For parents currently living overseas we are happy to do this at a distance via their current school.

Fresh salad and fruit is served with every meal. Juices and water are available for your children every day.

Yes. If your child has any special dietary requirements please let us know. We can provide information regarding the content of the food we serve that includes gluten free, dairy free, legume content food, fish and shellfish meals and egg products. Britannica provides over 100 after school activities for students, including; Football, Athletics, Rugby, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Badminton, Chamber Orchestra, a variety of music ensembles, robotics clubs and many more.

Sports activities included

Physical Education is built into the school timetable for all year groups from Pre-Nursery all the way up to Year 13. Our PE classes are fun, active and have an emphasis on participation. The skills acquired in PE will improve your child’s physical fitness, strength, agility, balance and coordination while they participate in sports such as football, basketball, netball, tennis, athletics, badminton,
swimming, gymnastics, hockey, volleyball, rounders, rugby and many more.

Sports teams or sport competitions available for students

Yes. Students have the opportunity to train and represent the school in sporting competitions as part of a school team. In particular, our Britannica Knights Football team and Frisbee team have been successful in competitions against local and regional competitors from across China, as have our Football teams.

As the only British owned, British managed and largely British staffed school in Shanghai, Britannica International School provides the ‘Best of British Education’. Located in the heart of the city, Britannica International School, Shanghai offers a full British curriculum, adapted and extended to meet the needs of international students. As a relatively small school we provide a personalised approach to teaching adapting our curriculum and student learning to meet the individual needs of each child. Britannica International School, Shanghai is located in Gubei, close to the downtown area, with nearby open spaces, and which is easily accessible with short journey times and bus routes for students.
