SIS recognizes and celebrates the diversity of the learning strengths and challenges of each of its students. In support of the mission, purpose, and philosophy of the school, as existing space and resources allow, students with additional learning needs will be admitted in accordance with the school's admissions policy. The school accommodates students with additional learning needs within the parameters of its existing resources and program options. Decisions regarding admission and continuation of services for a student will be made on a case-by-case basis within these guiding parameters.

Each campus has a full-time learning support specialist. The services provided by the learning support specialist include individual and small-group interventions, teacher collaboration and professional development, and parent education.

We have Learning Support teachers to support. Our programme features personalized learning with an emphasis on differentiation within the classroom. If a student is advanced in a specific area, our staff will work with the student to provide extension opportunities

Assessment

Decisions are based on a careful examination of each student’s ability to achieve success in an atmosphere of high expectations and within the context of an English language-learning environment. In making this assessment, SIS will evaluate each candidate’s English language proficiency and in some cases math skills, demonstrated academic achievement and developmental and social/behavioral history. This will include an interview. Students in grades 6 to 10 will also write an essay.

Starting in Kindergarten, SIS offers ASAs. ASAs are an essential part of school life and allow children to explore new activities and perhaps even discover their passion. We offer three cycles of ASAs and sign-ups are through an online platform, Schools Buddy. While most ASAs are offered by our teachers and are free or charged at a nominal fee, we bring in experts from the community to round out our ASA offerings. Those ASAs offered by the community are chargeable, and parents pay for their child to attend.

ASAs usually vary from trimester to trimester. The offerings are as varied as yoga to chess, robotics to gardening. Primary ASAs are from 3:10 to 4:15, while secondary ASAs are from 3:35 to 4:30.

SIS@The Bay Campus for primary (G1-G5) is our new purpose-built facility that features a theatre, large gym, science and design labs, a two-story library, canteen and kitchen facilities, climbing wall, and sports fields. The additional spaces at the Bay campus have enabled the development of a new Chinese bilingual programme that adds to our already successful French International Programme.
