Qualities and characteristics best defining the school

Since 2005, we have been passionate about helping children with unique educational needs, and our core expertise lies in having a wide range of in-house therapists who address these needs. The Singapore landscape has very few schools who are addressing the current demand of special educational needs inclusion in a mainstream setting, and even fewer have a full range of in-house expertise relating to Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Educational Therapy, Psychologists, Early Intervention and Physiotherapy, which we can organize in a timely manner depending on student's needs.

Teaching approach of the school

In order to provide pupils across Dynamics International School with experiences that are relevant, interesting and challenging, and to identify opportunities for progression, we have adopted a curriculum structure provisioning for:
• Special Needs Support
• Mainstream Support
Special Needs Support
Special Needs Support provides support for pupils with special needs, many of whom have no access to the local or international mainstream schooling. Following this support, most pupils are able to continue into our moderated mainstream setting. Our Special Needs Support is further divided into two levels: Special Support Program and School Readiness Program.

Mainstream Support
Mainstream Support pupils can access the range of British National Curriculum and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) subjects for their Key Stage, modified in the light of their developmental level and special educational needs. Specialist areas (the ‘additional curriculum’) are covered both within National Curriculum subjects (e.g. a pupil may be withdrawn to work on visual perceptual skills or independent mobility). As the term ‘formal’ implies, there is a high level of structure. We nevertheless avoid making the formal curriculum too abstract; teachers ensure that learning is linked to practical activities and consolidated and applied in practical sessions.

Transitioning to Mainstream Classrooms at Dynamics International School we employ detailed and on-going assessment for learning to ensure a child’s readiness into the mainstream classrooms. Our multi-disciplinary staff team helps us to make the transitioning smooth and orderly for the student.

Multi-Grade Mainstream Classrooms could be created for students to benefit from intellectual and social interaction with peers in their group who have different social behavior and ability to learn. We will have two year groups per class, e.g., Year1/2 or Year 5/6 are combined together. Our multi-grade classrooms have pupils working in ability groups - defined not by age but by need and achievement; pupils may therefore move from one group to the next at any point in their academic year. Each group covers skills, knowledge and understanding across a range of subjects. The main purpose for these mixed classrooms is to benefit all our students, for instance;

The older, more intellectually and socially matured children benefit:

• By helping their group peers since they are becoming their mentors, they are developing healthy leadership skills and enhancing their self esteem. A key ingredient to be able to become a ‘Responsible Citizen’ of society;
• By improving cognitive skills since they have the chance to consolidate knowledge by sharing it or instructing their younger group companions.

The younger, less intellectually and socially matured children benefit:
• By being exposed on cooperation activities with more matured students in a spirit of collaboration and team working;
• By being stimulated by students with stronger personalities, better abilities with wider range of interests;
• By belonging to a team where they feel security, trust and well guided by their group mates.

International Primary Curriculum
The IPC is our International Primary Curriculum for children aged 5 - 11 years old. It is used by over 730 schools in 92 countries worldwide.
It is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum, with a clear process of learning and specific learning goals for every subject. It also develops international mindedness and encourages personal learning.
We know that children learn best when they want to learn. That's why IPC has over 130 different thematic units of learning, designed to appeal to children’s interests and helps them to learn more about the world around them.
Themes include Who Am I?, The Magic Toymaker, Buildings, Chocolate, Active Planet, Young Entrepreneurs, Mission to Mars,and What Price Progress.
Themed units help children to see how subjects are both independent and interdependent. This enables them to see the big picture of their learning, make connections across different subjects, and talk about a topic from multiple perspectives.
