Teaching approach of the school |
OUR MISSION: Educating Minds and Transforming Lives to impact the world for the glory of God. We educate minds because we believe that God has a plan for each of our students and has created them with unique gifts and abilities. We believe that transformation occurs holistically, so we actively invest in the personal growth and academic development of all students. And we believe that our students are global leaders with the ability to enact positive change, impacting the world for God’s glory through their individual skills, talents, and purpose. OUR VISION: Our authentic international educational community will serve as a gateway to purpose, empowering and equipping global learners to lead positive change. This vision serves as a guide for the future of ICS, for the current school year and beyond. It highlights our understanding that our purpose as an educational community is to support our team members, partner with our parents, and prepare our students for success. With this goal in mind, we remain committed to serving every student, every family, every day for Christ. At International Community School (Singapore), we base our educational program on the American model of education, beginning our school year in mid-August and concluding in late May. When approving course objectives and goals, we utilize the recommendations of US-based professional organizations such as the National Council of Teaching of English (NCTE), International Literacy Association (ILA), National Council on Teaching Mathematics (NCTM), National Council of Social Studies (NCSS), National Standards for Art Education (NSAE). Our college preparatory High School is conducted in English, and students who graduate from our program receive a globally recognized High School Diploma. We consistently celebrate a number of National Merit Commended Scholars and Advanced Placement (AP) scholars in the student body. We offer both Honors and AP courses at all High School levels to prepare our students for the demands of university education. All students enrolled in AP classes are required to take the corresponding AP exam at the end of the school year. Students in Grades 10 and 11 are required to take the PSAT. The High School experience at ICS culminates in a senior thesis project. This academically rigorous, capstone paper spans the course of an entire semester, and requires significant scholarly research. Each student typically picks a topic to write about in their own field of interest, which is often related to a future career or intended area of study. |
