Placement testing in math and language (reading and writing) is done as a diagnostic, and this is supported by an informal interview.

Early Childhood - G1: Applicants for early childhood must attend a developmental screening and observation guided by the classroom teacher.

G2 - G12: Applicants in grades 1 - 12 must complete an academic screening of their English, both written and comprehension, ad mathematical proficiency. If necessary, applicants may be asked to sit for the second round of testing to determine their EAL level.

Offerings change every quarter to reflect the desires of the students and the talents in the community. Last quarter Thalun had 21 activities ranging from cooking classes and Mandarin lessons to filmmaking and K-Pop choreography. Students can choose to continue an existing activity, or join new offerings such as TED-Ed or origami club.
