Qualities and characteristics best defining the school |
SIS Swiss International School Zürich is a private day school for children from kindergarten through to college. Designed to fulfil the educational goals of Swiss as well as internationally mobile families, the SIS programme is centred on consistent bilingual classroom instruction and peer experience in German and English, culminating in a diploma with Swiss and international university entrance qualifications. |
Teaching approach of the school |
As at all levels of SIS, English and German are equally important, both as languages of instruction and in the school work. However, differing from primary school where a subject is taught in English and German on alternating days, at the secondary school level each subject is taught strictly in one language. Great care is taken that students learn important vocabulary in both languages and that the overall distribution of subjects in German and English is as equal as possible. In addition to gaining the ability to participate in multi-lingual classes in a natural way, SIS students also get solid, hands-on computer skills. SIS students profit from a classical education that offers depth and breadth and prepares them for the demands of college or vocational schools. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to prepare themselves for language certificates in English and French. Students with a good knowledge of English who have completed the first level of secondary school and ideally also one to two years of college, have the option, in the course of two to three years of study, to earn the internationally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, with international university entrance qualifications. |
