As a parent looking at an international school for your child, you are likely to be looking for one that provides a holistic education for your children. A school that is academically sound while nurturing your child in different aspects and equipping them with key skills for the present and the future.

Global Indian International School (GIIS) has provided students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 a well-rounded education in Singapore, since its founding in 2002. It is known for its international curriculum options, dedicated teachers, modern learning spaces, skill-based studios and the outstanding results of its graduating students.

GIIS offers both the IB Diploma Programme and the CBSE (Indian national curriculum) for students in Grades 11 and 12 and its students have done exceptionally well in the culminating examinations over the last 2 decades.

Consistently high results

In the 2023 IB Diploma exams, GIIS’ school average was 35.9 out of 45 points, which is significantly higher than the World IB Diploma average of 30.24 points. While 2 students in the cohort achieved the World-top score of 45/45 and an additional 5 students achieved a near-perfect score of 44, more than 30 GIIS students in this year’s cohort achieved more than 40 points, showcasing their commitment to hard work and academic excellence.

The CBSE 2023 results for GIIS were equally impressive with a school average of 81.5% for Grade 12 students and a 100% pass rate. 37% of GIIS’ CBSE Grade 12 students scored above 90% and 18% of students scored above 95%.

GIIS’ Principal (SMART campus, Punggol - Singapore), Ms. Melissa Maria acknowledges the efforts of students and teachers, saying,

“These impressive results are a testament to our students’ hard work, dedication, and talent, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. I would also like to acknowledge the pivotal role played by our teachers, coordinators, and academic supervisor in guiding and supporting our students towards success. Their unwavering commitment to excellence has undoubtedly contributed to this remarkable achievement.”

Over the last 15 years since GIIS introduced the IB Diploma programme for students in Grades 11 and 12, over 100 of them have become IBDP World Toppers and Near-Perfect scorers!

In 2023, GIIS graduates have earned university spots at institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, London School of Economics, King’s College in the United Kingdom, UCLA, Cornell, Purdue, UC San Diego in the United States, University of British Columbia and University of Toronto in Canada, University of Melbourne in Australia, National University of Singapore, NTU and SMU in Singapore, among others.

Students at GIIS get individual university and career guidance from a dedicated team of university counsellors and are also able to attend webinars, one-on-one counselling sessions and university fairs to understand more about their university choices. Every year, a number of universities from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and other countries visit on pre-arranged dates so that students can interact with them.

Welcoming environment

At GIIS, high school for students involves academics and other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. It’s a time for students to learn new skills and try out their ideas in projects, assignments and also in activities beyond the classroom. Teachers, friends and the support received at school goes a long way in helping students achieve their goals and the successful completion of their schooling.

According to Arushi Anand, GIIS IB graduate from the 2023 cohort,

“The culture at GIIS is quite inclusive, the staff and teachers are friendly and supportive. Our teachers guided us throughout our IB journey - inside the classroom and also supported us with things beyond school. I made many friends at GIIS who were truly a support system in my high school journey.”
Arushi scored a high 40/45 in the IB exams and is going on to study Economics at the University of California, San Diego.

Impact of the IB

Before students start the IB Diploma Programme at GIIS, there are multiple online briefings and orientations about IB subjects and the assignments students are required to complete. There are briefings on how subject combinations work, the expectations for Internal Assessments, the different components of the IB as well as individual briefings on each subject when the course starts. Teachers explain the flow of the syllabus and timelines so that students know what to expect throughout the two years of the IBDP. This form of support from GIIS teachers helps students adjust to the demands of the IB Diploma Programme.

Talking about how the IBDP made an impact on him, recent GIIS graduate Ananth Madhusudhan, who scored a massive 43 out of 45 in the 2023 IBDP exams, says,

“The IBDP is structured in such a way that it makes students inquisitive, fosters creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, and drives students to become the best version of themselves. Having gone through this 'IB transformation', I find myself in a world full of previously unknown possibilities. I question everything a lot more and have become far more critical, preferring to conduct my own research on information I receive rather than take it at face value.”

Ananth received university offers from Imperial College, University College London, the University of Toronto among others, and has chosen Imperial College to do a Masters in Physics.

Opportunities to develop key skills

At GIIS, students get a variety of opportunities to develop several skills including communication, collaboration, management and leadership skills. While these start from an early age and students are given opportunities right from kindergarten to develop multiple skills, high school students get more leadership opportunities and skills that make them ready for university and beyond.

Akshaya Singh, also of the 2023 GIIS IB cohort, recounts some of her experience at GIIS,

“As Vice President of the GIIS Art Club, I got an opportunity to contribute my ideas and gain insights into teamwork and team management. I enjoyed this leadership position in my final years at school. I was also able to participate in GIIS Hackathon for 3 years with my friends, and I had the chance to learn how to use Blender, and build a website using HTML and Python in a competitive space.

At IGNITE International Inter-School Entrepreneurship Challenge in 2021, I worked in a team to introduce an app named Unic, that would connect university students together and help them feel more comfortable living abroad. I had the opportunity to design the presentation for the team and worked with my peers who put in a lot of effort at each step of the competition. I was able to improve my marketing and public speaking skills as well during the course of this challenge.”

Akshaya Singh scored 42 out of 45 in the IB exams and has chosen to accept an offer to study Economics at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
