The Cambridge International curriculum is a stimulating and enriching academic programme that fosters knowledge and skills needed to succeed and thrive in a modern, and dynamic world. The internationally-recognised programme is known for its global standards for helping students gain critical skills and developing lifelong love for learning.

At GIIS, the Cambridge curriculum has been meticulously interwoven into the school’s teaching philosophy for secondary students in Grades 6-10. It is one of the two international academic pathways available to GIIS students. For Grades 6-8, students have the choice to undertake the Cambridge Lower Secondary programme, which progresses through upper secondary or IGCSE for Grades 9-10.

With an emphasis on academic excellence, and a suite of key 21st century skills – creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving, the curriculum equips students for success in an increasingly interconnected world.

Cambridge ‘Top of the World’ recognition for GIIS students

Over the years, GIIS students have consistently excelled in Cambridge assessments, including achieving impressive IGCSE results and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards. Conferred by the Cambridge International Education, these awards celebrate and recognise student achievements. GIIS students have earned the esteemed 'Top in the World' Award for subject proficiency in Mathematics w/o coursework, Additional Mathematics, Computer Science and Hindi.

In 2024, four GIIS students – Hanaya Hewamallika, Janessa Mathai, Uday Singh Yadava and Naisha Raturi – won the ‘Best in Singapore’ for the Cambridge IGCSE Learner Award: Action on Climate Change. The project posed a thought provoking question — “How could a single pen affect the world climate?’. It was their exploration about discarded plastic pens that end up in landfills, releasing harmful gases, and adding to global warming that motivated them to take action for the environment.

Project #RE-INK with the message, ‘Give your pens a second life’, won the team the coveted Cambridge Award. The GIIS team not just raised awareness about the environment but came up with a stationary segregation machine, as part of their sustainability drive.

Previously, in 2023 a group of GIIS IGCSE students, Anwita Sethi, Kiana Kamdar, Kritika Tripathi, and Anaya Shabi, known as Team Green Threads, clinched the esteemed ‘Best in Region’ Cambridge Award.

The forward-thinking group of students adopted an innovative approach to textile recycling by crafting functional chairs from old textiles. GIIS Team Green Thread: “We hope to inspire our peers and create a positive impact that would change the world for the better.”

In 2024, 100 percent of GIIS students obtained the Cambridge International Certificate in Education (ICE) certification. Notably, 80% of these students achieved either A* or A grades, with 50% securing A* grades. The school’s average percentage uniform mark (PUM) was 86, and 13 students attained a perfect score of A* in all subjects they appeared for.

Strengths of the Cambridge Curriculum

Among the many strengths of the Cambridge International curriculum, fostering creativity, inquiry, and critical thinking in students makes it a stimulating and rigorous programme. It includes written, oral, listening, and coursework assessments, and this well-rounded approach ensures that students are not just exam-ready but prepared for real-world application of knowledge and skills.

Moreover, recognised worldwide by leading universities, the curriculum is a valuable credential for future endeavours of students.

At GIIS, the Cambridge curriculum provides a strong foundation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Grades 11 & 12, where students are encouraged to gain deeper knowledge, and real-world experience, which acts as a springboard for university and beyond.

For over 20 years, GIIS Singapore has served as a launchpad for students pursuing higher education at top universities worldwide, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UC Berkeley, UCLA, NUS, and many others. The school's robust alumni network spans various fields like science, law, medicine, engineering, business management, digital communication, and more.
